Wizard of Oz Birthday

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Wizard of Oz Party
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead…

I love getting creative in every area of my party planning and had so much fun with this theme. A classic movie like the Wizard of Oz is just loaded with iconic decoration ideas. For starters, there’s the Ruby Red Slippers. These shoes are the star of the show and are just the thing to sit on top of the Hostess ding-dongs. At the front entrance I used the sparkly red  shoes my daughter wore last Christmas to represent the scene where the house fell on the Wicked Witch and she lost her prized slippers. I love being able to get more mileage from things that would otherwise not get much use.

Rainbow layered cake

The Ruby Slippers even made an appearance on the birthday cake. My talented sister-in-law bakes and decorates the most amazing cakes and I was so happy when she agreed to make this cake. On the outside, there is a yellow brick road going through a poppy field and on top…Ruby Red Slippers. She even added edible red glitter. It was crazy cool! It just got better on the inside of the cake. I was so excited to see how the inside turned out, but at the same time, I hated cutting into it. It was such a work-of-art!

Wizard of Oz party snacks
The rainbows were everywhere, even the snacks were rainbows…a sneaky and sure-fire way to get healthy food into growing young munchkins! A melted Wicked Which is surprisingly delicious when served as punch! This punch was made using lime sherbet and Sprite.

MUNCHkin’s Popcorn Station

A Wizard of Oz birthday wouldn’t be complete without a showing of the very movie that inspired the party! The popcorn stand was loaded with all different kinds of popcorn and goodies to snack on while the girls watched the show!

An exacto knife was used to cut out a window which revealed the main characters and all the important party details on the other side. All the envelopes were sealed up with Ruby Red stickers.
