La Coyota is the Best Shopping Experience In Cabo

There is no shortage of souvenir shops in Cabo San Lucas. In fact, you can find them on nearly every corner and side street in the tourist corridor. However, if you’re looking for the best shopping experience in Cabo, then make your way over to La Coyota. La Coyota is completely different from any of those shops you see downtown or at the marina. So different that you will likely pinch yourself the first time you step foot inside this magical place.

The Space

La Coyota is a wonderful open-air boutique filled with beautifully curated treasures. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the sounds trickling water over nearby fountains. Carefully arranged baskets and colorful blown glass hearts strung in the trees. Dozens of punched tin lanterns hang from thatched roof ceilings and that’s just the entrance! Walking around the many courtyards, it seems like the space goes on forever. There are so many rooms to discover, so many treasures to uncover and walking around, you know you’re shopping someplace special. All the merchandise is artfully displayed and arranged in a way that makes you feel like you are walking through someone’s well appointed home…because well, you are! La Coyota is the former hacienda estate of Edith Jiménez!

If you’ve eaten at The Office or any of Edith Jiménez’s other highly acclaimed restaurants and wondered who does the decorating…. well, it’s Edith of course!

Shopping at La Coyota feels like a visit to a really quaint picturesque Mexican village. Walking around is an experience in itself. Beautiful fountains, courtyards, stair cases, and even a swimming pool. Handcrafted gifts beautifully displayed in every direction. My husband agrees. He loved it almost as much as I did.

About the Owner

The owner and curator of this one-of-a-kind shop is Edith Jimenez, one of the most successful restaurateurs in Cabo San Lucas. You have likely heard of The Office, but she also owns Edith’s, La Pintada, Tres Sirenas, or The Italian Job. La Coyota is Edith’s former residence which she transformed into a wonderful space for all to enjoy. You can read more about Edith here.

What You’ll Find

Located inside an old hacienda-style estate, each room reveals new treasures for every space in your home. Everything from hand painted talavera pottery in mugs, plates, bowls and more, to hand-blown glass drinkware and glass hearts of all sizes. La Coyota also has table linens, hand embroidered clothing, pillows and tapestries, crosses, sacred hearts and whimsical Dia de los muertos curiosities.

These hand-blown glass hearts come in many sizes are colors and have been my Cabo souvenir of choice for years. I have a nice little collection of clear and turquoise glass hearts and hope to one day display them outside.

This whole area was just so swoon worthy. The sunlight shining on the brightly colored glassware was just beautiful!

A Relaxed Atmosphere

If the idea of shopping at a beautiful boutique like this has you conjuring up thoughts of stuffy, high-pressure sales people and high prices, be assured, La Coyota is none of those things. The workers are very all very friendly and let you shop without hassle. Instead, they might bring you some bottled water to enjoy as you take your time browsing. You can easily spend 30-40 minutes just looking around and that’s a-okay. You will be pleasantly surprised by how reasonable everything is priced. Very competitive with other places around Cabo.

My Purchases

After walking around for a while it became clear that I had completely underestimated the amount of space allocated for souvenirs in my suitcase. I did manage to purchase several glass hearts to add to my ongoing collection as well as several pieces of talavera, but not nearly much as I wanted. As I type this I am already planning my return trip for a few other special pieces.

When I saw this mug I had to have it. The colors are so bright and cheerful and this mug is HUGE. It holds 20 oz of coffee and is just so big it makes me smile simply because of it’s massive size. I also got a plate to use as a saucer and because I really love this pattern.
I returned for a second time to purchase more mugs to give as gifts!
