Charcuterie at 35,000 feet

Why settle for some prepackaged airline snack box when you can enjoy a delicious charcuterie tray at 35,000 feet! Sure you could grab a fast food meal from the airport food court, but with a little pre-planning you will be dining in style on your next flight. Does this seem a little over the top? Maybe, but you will thank me when you are eating this while the person across the isle is cracking open their tiny bag of of allergen friendly snacks. Customize your tray with exactly what your traveling heart desires. Food allergies? No problem. You are in complete control of this meal and can cater it to meet your specific dietary needs.Alaska Airlines airplane wing

Creating the Perfect Charcuterie Tray

A silver tray like the one above can be purchased at the Dollar Tree, is lightweight and fits right in my favorite cary-on bag along with the divided food container containing all my goodies. (At the end of your stay you can use the silver tray to hold the tip for housekeeping.) Just a heads up, for some reason the unopened container of brie had to be checked by TSA while going through security, whereas the pre-sliced portion I brought previously did not.

Charcuterie prepThe night before your flight, gather all your meats, sliced cheeses and other snacks and keep them cold in the refrigerator in a divided food container. For things like nuts, fruit or jam I use these 2 oz condiment cups. Most of these food items can live outside the refrigerator for a while, but if you are concerned, plan to eat it earlier in the flight. Charcuterie tray done two waysI love to create a tray that is both savory and sweet. For starters, load your tray up with lots of meats and cheeses. Add some almonds and berries and you have the perfect keto-friendly airline snack. For a non-keto version, add in some crackers and a little fig jam to top off your brie. This only takes minutes to set up and is such a fun way to start your vacation. The flight attendants on Alaska Airlines love it too and always comment on how cute it looks.

Charcuterie Tray Ideas:

Don’t forget the garnish! We enjoy a sprig of rosemary to compliment our platter.
