Quick Bites in St Augustine

Our St Augustine itinerary was packed full, so rather than using valuable time sitting down for a big meal, we opted to try several popular stops for quick bites all around the downtown historic district. There were so many options, it was really hard to chose. We strolled up and down St George Street twice before we finally made up our minds! Luckily everything was an enjoyable 10 minute walk near the Colonial Quarter.

There are five Australian themed Kookaurra locations in St Augustine, but the original location is extra great because it’s located right next to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. It was a warm day so I ordered their signature Honey Badger iced latte which is a delicious blend of honey, cinnamon and vanilla. The house made iced chai was very good as well. Both drinks were rich and smooth and quite perfect for enjoying on a warm Florida afternoon. You can also find Aussie pies on the menu at Kookaburra. We would have tried one, except we already had other plans at The Spanish Bakery.

When touring a town rich with Spanish history, sampling a fresh empanada is a great choice.

The Spanish Bakery (Salcedo Kitchen) is located in the historic Colonial Quarter in a reconstructed 18th century building originally built during St. Augustine’s Spanish occupation. This separate kitchen was constructed behind the Salcedo House, and was originally added by British occupants.

For just $8.95 you can enjoy one of their famous beef empanadas and a side of your choice. Made-to-order these traditional Spanish meat pastries are a delicious quick bite that will hold you over until dinner. Spanish Bakery’s full menu

Nothing beats a refreshing Dole whip on a hot day. Located in the Colonial Quarter, Likit is an easy walk (about two blocks) from the Spanish Bakery.
