Christmas Countdown Beer and Cider Sampler

This homemade Christmas countdown beer and cider sampler is the perfect gift for almost any guy on your list. The idea is simple. Think of it like those paper advent calendars you had as a kid. Instead of opening a little door with chocolate behind it, your recipient unwraps a new beverage each day. You can make each package the same drink or mix it up like I do. The first year I collected beer and ciders from all over the world and included local brews as well. It was a huge hit with my husband who looked forward to the surprise that awaited him at the end of the day.

Beer and Cider Countdown Sampler Instructions:

  1. First, purchase a selection of beer and cider (or any beverage you prefer). World Market has these great Beers of the World 9-pack boxes that you can purchase in-store or you can create your own box with beers and cider you choose yourself. It was actually pretty fun to look through their selection and pick brews from all different regions, including our local Oregon breweries. Definitely check them out!
  2. Wrap with colorful holiday tissue paper. I like to coordinate the tissue with the box, but you certainly don’t have to. I thought the scalloped tissue paper looked nice for this project. You can find some similar here, here or here.
  3. Once the tissue is wrapped all the way around the bottle, secure the end of the tissue paper with tape.
  4. Tie the neck of the bottle with twine or ribbon, leaving enough extra twine to tie a bow.
  5. Number gift tags from 1 to 24 with a sharpie. For this sampler, I just used some die-cut playing cards shaped like mittens. If you use playing cards you’ll need to punch a hole at the top for the twine or ribbon. Some fun tags can be found here and here, or you can use simple kraft tags.
  6. Next, tie the gift tags with the twine/ribbon wrapped around the bottle.
  7. Wrap a medium sized box with coordinating gift wrap. (Test to make sure all the bottles fit in the box first).
  8. After all of your bottles are wrapped, place carefully in the box and add a big bow to the front.
  9. Roll up a copy of the sampler comment form (listed at the bottom of this post) and tuck it in the box.
  10. Finally, don’t forget to include a fun new bottle opener.

Beer and Cider Sampler Party

After enjoying several drinks, my husband got the idea to save all the remaining beers and ciders from his Christmas Beer Countdown Sampler. Instead of keeping them for himself, he decided to host a beer sampler party. You can host your very own sampler party. Click on either the Cider Sampler or the Beer Sampler then personalize with your name and order as many as you need. We use one per guest.

The following year we added personalized drink ware. These customizable glasses resemble drink ware you might find at a brewery. You can order yours by clicking the link below:
